Offset on why hip-hop sales have declined in 2023: “There’s nothing new being brought to the game”

Hip-hop sales have been on the decline in 2023 and Migos rapper Offset believes it’s because creativity in the genre is lacking.

“I’m noticing that no content music ain’t catching nobody’s ear,” Offset said in an interview with Ebro Darden for Apple Music. “I’m noticing that the numbers are down in our genre specifically because I feel like everything is so the same. The next new s—t was another n— that was just here. There’s nothing new being brought to the game.”

Offset continued, “Not just on the sound side but just all the way around. Creatively too,” he said. “Most videos be, like, a Rolls Royce in the background, two chains on. That s— getting boring, fellas. … You got these pop and these country artists smoking shit because they coming with the full round, the full package.”

Offset added that the decline can be extended to hip-hop artists’ live performances as well, where some rappers will charge “$200 a ticket” while failing to deliver a presentation worthy of the money being spent.

“That’s why if you look at the lineups, it’s getting thinner and thinner on them lineups,” Offset said. “They not trying to pay you $600,000 to come just walk the stage, brother. It’s that time for me to change this s—, man.”
